Zinc Saves Lives!

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018

Guess what St.Teresa families? It’s back! That’s right! It’s “The Batteries for Zinc Campaign” and the Social Justice Club encourages you to donate your used batteries again this year. We are collecting used batteries to save children’s lives through a program sponsored by “Zinc Saves Lives Battery Recycling Campaign.” It was founded by Teck, (A Canadian mining company and one of the world’s largest producers of zinc) and the Me to We Foundation. Two billion people don’t get enough zinc through their diet, and zinc deficiency contributes to the death of 450,000 children each year. For every recycled battery, Teck donates the value of the zinc it contains to WE in support of zinc and health work in WE villages in Kenya. DID YOU KNOW that a used AA battery has enough zinc to save 6 children’s lives? Last year, our school donated about 3762 used batteries which means, we saved about 22 572 children. Our goal is to get about 4500 used batteries which helps about 27 000 children. In each classroom, there will be a tin for used batteries. This year we won’t be collecting hearing aid batteries.

Thank you for supporting the St.Teresa Social Justice Club. —
