Zinc Saves Lives!

Guess what St. Teresa families? It’s back for another year! That’s right! “The Batteries for Zinc Campaign” sponsored by the Social Justice Club. We would be thrilled if you were to donate your used batteries again this year. (but not hearing aid, watch or cell phone batteries.) We are collecting used batteries to save children’s lives through a program sponsored by “Zinc Saves Lives Battery Recycling Campaign.” It was founded by Teck, (A Canadian mining company and one of the world’s largest producers of zinc) and the Me to We Foundation. Two billion people don’t get enough zinc through their diet and zinc deficiency contributes to the death of 450 000 children each year. For every recycled battery, Teck donates the value of the zinc it contains to WE in support of health work in developing countries. DID YOU KNOW that a used AA battery has enough zinc to save 6 children’s lives? Last year, our school donated about 3746 used batteries which means, we saved about 22 476 children. We also kept those batteries out of the local landfill sites. In each classroom, there will be a collection tin for used batteries.

Thank you for your continued support!
